Kansas Jayhawk Basketball Coach Bill Self

Kansas Jayhawk Basketball Coach Bill Self

The Kansas Jayhawks 2009 men’s basketball recruiting class got a huge break with Coach John Calipari’s exodus to Lexington, KY from Memphis — Xavier Henry. With Coach Cal’s departure from Memphis, Xavier Henry was able to get out of his comittment to the Tigers and chose to stay closer to home and go to Kansas next season. Henry is one of the top 10 recruits in the 2009 NCAA men’s basketball recruiting class, and he will be a key player  on next season’s team. Henry is joined by poing guard prospect Elijah Johnson and Tomas Robinson in the 2009 Kansas recruiting class. Coupled with the returning talent from last year’s squad, and Kansas is definitely going to be a favorite to join North Carolina and Kentucky deep in the 2010 NCAA tournament next year.

2009-10 Projected Starting Lineup for the Kansas Jayhawks

Coach Self also has C.J. Henry who is transferring to Kansas as a walk-on from Memphis as well as University of Arizona transfer, center Jeff Withey joining the Jayhawks next season. C.J. Henry has his tuition funded by the New York Yankees who drafted him in the 2005 Major League Baseball draft and NCAA transfer rules will keep Jeff Withey from playing until after the Christmas Holidays. Perhaps, though, Coach Self’s greatest off-season news was that stars Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich would be back next season to give it one more go at a 2nd NCAA championship. As far as projecting the starting lineup for the start of next season, Xavier Henry will likely be the only new face starting with the return of Aldrich and Collins and just might be the difference maker in getting Kansas back to the Final Four and NCAA championship game next season. Coach Self’s primary issue for the start of the 2009-10 season will be figuring out the best way to use all of his talent without negatively affecting the overall team chemistry. Also, don’t underestimate the impact that Withey will have on the Jayhawks performance in Big-12 play. If he’s able to make a difference quick, then Aldrich will be free to bang with the other bigs in the league without having to worry about getting into foul trouble too much.

Projected 2009-10 Kansas Jayhawk Starting Line-Up:

PG: Sherron Collins

SG: Tyshawn Taylor

SF: Xavier Henry

PF: Marcus Moris

C: Cole Aldrich
