2009 NBA Draft Point Guard Prospect Eric Maynor

Eric Maynor was not widely known outside of VCU fans and NBA scouts until he almost led VCU over the UCLA Bruins in the 2009 NCAA tournament. Maynor is an All American point guard who quietly averaged 22.4 points, 6.2 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 steals a game last season. Most 2009 NBA mock drafts hold Maynor anywhere from a late 2009 NBA lottery draft pick to a late first round choice for the 2009 NBA draft.

Eric Maynor’s Collegiate Career at VCU

Eric Maynor finished his junior season at VCU as the program’s all-time leader in assists, made free throws, and points scored culminating in getting his team to the NCAA tournament where he just missed a last second shot to upset the UCLA Bruins in the 2009 NCAA tournament. During his sophomore season, Maynor was the CAA Player of the Year and selected to the CAA First Team. During Maynor’s freshman season, he led VCU over Duke in the first round of the 2007 NCAA tournament which first got his name before the main-stream media with the shot now known as the “Duke Dagger.”

Eric Maynor’s 2009 NBA Prospects

Eric Maynor is 6′2″, 175 lbs, but is considered to be one of the top 5 NBA Point Guard prospects for the 2009 NBA draft. He is considered to be a great all-around point guard prospect with an excellent basketball IQ and a great ability to find the open man and finishing drives. On the down-side, Maynor is not considered to be one of the top-level athletes in the draft and he is considered to be a bit skinny to withstand a full-NBA season.
