2009-10 Top Ten NCAA Basketball Point Guards

Two highly touted freshman in John Wall and Abdul Gaddy are on the list and are expected to make big impacts at Kentucky and Washington respectfully. Wall comes into the 2009-10 season as one of the highest ranked college basketball players and many expect he’ll follow Derrick Rose and Tyreke Evans to the NBA after his freshman year under Coach John Calipari. Many fans debate the utility of including freshmen on preseason “Top 10 ” lists, however with the impact that we’ve see over the past 5 years of fresmen in the NCAA, I chose to include John Wall and Abdul Gaddy in my top 10.
Top 10 NCAA Basketball Point Guards
#1 2009 NCAA Basketball Point Guard - Sherron Collins, Kansas
Sherron Collins put the NBA off for a year to come back for a shot at the NCAA title. If he can lead Kansas to the national title it will be the second during his tenure at Kansas.
#2 2009 NCAA Basketball Point Guard – John Wall, Kentucky
John Wall comes into Kentucky as one of the most-hyped college and pro prospects in a long time. Put him alongside Eric Bledsoe and Darrius Miller with Patrick Patterson and DeMarcus Cousins and the only thing that will hold John Wall back will be himself this season.
#3 2009 NCAA Basketball Point Guard – Kalin Lucas, Michigan State
Kalin Lucas almost led the Spartans to the national championship last season. Look for him to take control of games more often this season and lead the Spartans deep into the 2010 NCAA tournament.
#4 2009 NCAA Basketball Point Guard Greivis Vasquez, Maryland
If you’re a fan of non-ACC conferences, then you may not have heard much about Greivis Vasquez from last season. In any other conference, his second consecutive season of scoring more than 17 points a game at a17.5 ppg scoring average with 5.0 assists per game, 1.4 steals, and 5.4 rebounds per game would have made him a household name. Look for even bigger things out of Vasquez this coming season.
#5 2009 NCAA Basketball Point Guard – Abdul Gaddy, Washington
If Abdul Gaddy had signed with an ACC, Big East, or Big Ten team, we would see significantly more hype surrounding him for the 2009-10 NCAA season. He’s going to do big things at Washington this season.
#6 2009 NCAA Basketball Point Guard – Devan Downey, South Carolina
Devan Downey should pass 2,000 points and 500 assists for his career at South Carolina this season. The Gamecocks will upset some teams this season, and if Downey has a big year South Carolina may be able to make the tournament in 2010.
#7 2009 NCAA Basketball Point Guard Nic Wise, Arizona
Nic Wise can run the point as well as shoot the 3 ball. He made better than 40 percent of his 3-point shots las season.
#8 2009 NCAA Basketball Point Guard – Corey Fisher, Villanova
Nova comes into the 2009-10 season as the Big East favorite. Corey Fisher will have a big role in how the Wildcats season turns out.
#9 2009 NCAA Basketball Point Guard – Kemba Walker, Connecticut
Kemba Walker would be ranked higher if he had displayed a better ability to shoot the basll last season. He has a knack for getting deep penetration with defenses and will have UConn competing with Nova for the Big East title this season.
#10 2009 NCAA Basketball Point Guard – Edgar Sosa, Louisville
Edgar Sosa comes back to lead the Louisville Cardinals into the 2009-10 season. The defending Big East regular season and tournament champions didn’t go as deep in the 2009 NCAA tournament as many expected, but their fate in 2010 will rely heavily on Sosa’s performance running the point for Coach Rick Pitino.

How idiotic! The last time I saw Samuels play he was a 6' 9" center for the Cards. Was he rendered a double amputee in the off season?
Space Aliens replaced Edgar Sosa with Samuels….now fixed…will have the editor lay off of adult beverages when posting next time!! Thanks for the catch.
