The Robert Morris Colonials upset the Quinnipiac Bobcats to with the 2010 NEC Basketball Conference Tournament Championship, 52-50. The Colonials were the first team to defeat the Bobcats at home this season who have lost out on their first NCAA Tournament bid in school history.
Robert Morris finished the season with a 15-3 conferene record and has an overall record of 23-11 heading into the 2010 NCAA tournament.
The Colonials played some tough non-conference opponents before starting the NEC conference tournament schedule with Syracuse, Penn State, and Pitt highlighting that portion of the schedule. They did not perform too well, however, in these contests dropping the game to Syracuse by 40 points, Penn State by 19, and 24 to Pitt. They will likely enter the 2010 NCAA tournament as a 16 seed.
Robert Morris is led by freshman guard, Karon Abraham who has been averaging 13.3 points per game and has been making 45 percent of his attempted 3 pointers while shooting 87 % from the free throw line. Robert Morris also has forward Rob Robinson who scores 10 points per game.
Robert Morris averages less than 70 points a game and does average more turnovers than assists. There is not a player on the team who grabs more than 6 rebounds in a game.
The Colonials did have a 9 game winning streak earlier in the season and have won their last 3 games. They will likely either be in the play-in game or be a 16 seed in the 2010 NCAA tourney.
