The Baylor Bears finished the 2010 NCAA regular season at 25-7, 11-5 in Big 12 play. They earned a #3 seed in the 2010 NCAA basketball tournament. The Bears had big wins during the regular season over Xavier (69-64), Texas (regular season and Big 12 tournament), and Texas A&M (70-66). The Bears last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2008 where they lost in the first round to Purdue.
Baylor Bears Performance
The Bears were a team that started playing tough at the end of Big 12 regular season play. The team shoots almost 50 percent from the floor and plays tough defense only allowing their opponents to shoot 38 % from the field. Baylor’s defense is led by Ekpe Udoh who blocks almost 4 shots a game and is one of the top rebounders in the Big 12. Baylor also has Josh Lomers who is 7 feet tall and 6-10 Anthony Jones making them a physical and strong team inside.
Baylor did lose to Colorado and Alabama this season and only run about 7 players deep on their regular rotation. This may not be as big of an issue for them in the opening round, but could play a factor as the team progresses in the NCAA Tournament. When Baylor has lost this season, turnovers have normally played a significant factor in the loss.
The leading scorers on Baylor are LaceDarius Dunn, Guard, 19.4ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.8 apg, Tweety Carter, Guard, 15.7 ppg, 7.1 apg, and Epke Udoh, center, 13.9 ppg, 9.8 rpg, and 3.9 bpg. The fate of Baylor may lie in the performance of Quincy Acy, forward, 9.3 ppg, and A.J. Walton, guard, 3.8 ppg and keeping their bigs out of foul trouble when playing some of the tougher competition that can match up with the Bears inside.
Overall, Baylor scores 77.4 ppg while giving up 65.3 ppg. They also average just over 7 three pointers a game and shoot just under 40% from 3.
