The Georgetown Hoyas finished the season 23-10 and 10-8 in Big East play and obtained a #3 seed in the 2010 NCAA tournament. The Hoyas had big wins this season over Duke, Villanova, and Syracuse. Conversely, they had big losses to South Florida and Rutgers. The Hoyas last appeared in the 2008 NCAA Tournament where they lost in the second round to Davidson. Coach John Thompson III is 7-5 in 5 total NCAA Tournament appearances.

Georgetown’s return to prominence this season has been due to the improvement of their guard play. Chris Wright has significantly improved this season and is averaging 14.8 ppg and 4.1 apg. Austin Freeman has dealt with being diagnosed with diabetes and has been averaging 16.7 ppg and 2.4 apg this season and Jason Clark scores at a 10.6 ppg clip. Star center, Greg Monroe has scored at a 16.1 ppg and 9.5 rpg clip this season and is projected to be a lottery pick in the 2010 NBA draft.

When Georgetown has lost this season, it has been due to having a large number of turnovers. They still average around 15 turnovers a game and do not have much depth in the front court. On the good side, Greg Monroe doesn’t get into foul trouble much, but if the Hoyas play a team with significant front court depth in the Tourney, they could run into trouble if Monroe accumulates fouls early in the game.

Georgetown averages 73.1 ppg and gives up just over 65 points a game on defense. They have averaged right at 50% from the field and their opponents have shot 41%. The Hoyas make just over 6 3′s a game and shoot then at just under a 40% clip. Georgetown is a decent free throw shooting team at 71% and have a 1.1 assist-to-turnover ratio as a team.
