2010 NCAA Tournament Preview: Morgan State Bears

The Morgan State Bears won the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament and finished the season 27-9, 15-1. They had big wins this season over Arkansas, East Tennessee State, and South Carolina State. Noteable losses include ones to Loyola, MD, EKU, and South Carolina State. The team last went to the 2009 NCAA Tournament where they lost to Oklahoma in the first round. Head coach, Todd Bozeman is 2-4 lifetime in 4 NCAA Tournament appearances.

The Bears are led by senior guard, Reggie Holmes who averages 21.8 ppg and 4.3 rp and sophomore forward Kevin Thompson, 12.8 ppg, 11.9 rpg. Thompson has been dominating on the boards this season for the Bears after being a reserve much of last season. Sophomore guard, Sean Thomas is the next highest scorer on the team at 4.7 ppg and 3.1 apg.

The biggest question mark for Morgan State throughout the season is who there third scorer is or will be. If a team can shut down Holmes and or Thompson, they have not had a consistent, third scorer on the squad this season. Joe Davis is one of best long range shooters on the team but has only connected on 25% of his 3 point shots this season.

As a team, Morgan State averages 76.9 ppg and gives up 71 ppg on defense. They shoot 43% from the field and their opponents average roughly the same percentage. The Bears make just under 6 3 pointers a game and hit them at a 34% clip. They have less than a 1.0 assist-to-turnover ratio per game.
