The Washington Huskies spent much of the season on the NCAA tournament bubble until they won the 2010 PAC 10 Conference Tournament and received a #11 seed in the NCAA East Region. The Huskies finished the season 24-9 and 11-7 in PAC 10 play. They beat California in January and again in the PAC 10 championship game as well as Texas A&M in late December. Washington did get swept by USC and lost at UCLA by one point this season. Coach Lorenzo Romar is 5-5 in 5 NCAA Tournament appearances and his team lost in the 2nd round to Purdue on the 2009 NCAA Tournament.
Washington is led in the frontcourt by Quincy Pondexter, 19.8 ppg and 7.5 rpg, and Matthew Bryan-Amaning, 8.7 ppg, 5.9 rpg. Isaiah Thomas leads the backcourt at 17.1 ppg and 2.9 apg. Freshman Abdul Gaddy has been slow to take to the college game averaging only 4.1 ppg and 2.2 apg, but has been showing improvement as the season has progressed.
The biggest knock against the Huskies is the lack of a third consistent scorer on the team. Gaddy has been a solid player but has not scored at the rate many thought he would in his frosh year. Washington many times will play up to 10 players in a game, so a key to their success will be if Gaddy or one of the other players on the squad becomes that third scorer for the Huskies.
Washington averages 80.5 ppg as a team which is 9th in the nation and gives up 70.6 ppg on defense. The Huskies shoot 45 % from the field and their opponents average slightly lower at 42%. The Huskies make 5.2 3′s a game and shoot them at a 32.5 % clip. They have just over a 1.1 assist to turnover ration and a 4.6 rebounding margin a game.
