Bridgestone Arena Nashville

The Bridgestone Arena opened on December 18th, 1996 and was formerly known as the Nashville Arena, Gaylord Entertainment Center, and Sommet Center. The facility is operated by the Sports Authority of Nashville and Davidson County who has the Powers Management Company run the facility. The primary tenants of the arena are the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League who have been in the facility since 1998. In addition to ice skating and other events, the venue hosts a number of basketball conference tournaments to include those by the Ohio Valley and Southeastern Conference.

Bridgestone Arena Seating Capacity

The Bridgestone Arena can seat approximately 20,000 fans for basketball, just over 17,100 for ice hockey, an 10,000 for half-house concerts. The arena seating configuration is known for  having an oddly-shaped south end that has two large round roof support columns and no mid-level seating. As a result, the upper level seating on this end of the facility is much closer to the floor of the arena.

Bridgestone Arena Renovations

The Bridgestone Arena underwent significant renovations in 2007 when it was known as the Sommet Center. During the upgrades, was the replacement of the original scoreboard with a new one that is called the “Megatron.” Additionally, the TV control room was upgraded at an overall cost of $2.6 million USD. Later, in 2011 the south side of the upper concourse was remade into a “Fan Zone” with the wall separating the arena and that section of the upper concourse being removed.

Things to Do Near Bridgestone Arena

For new visitors to Nashville, the Grand Ole Opry normally lands as one of the top attractions to see in Nashville outside of sporting events. The Country Music Hall of Fame and RCA Studio B are also very popular with country music fans. For those who like to get closer to nature, the Cheekwood Botanical Gardens & Museum of Art and the Opryland Hotel Gardens are located within a 10 minute drive of downtown.
