The 2010 Big East basketball tournament is scheduled to kick off at Madison Square Garden on March 9th, 2010. Unlike the other major college basketball conferences, the Big East gives a two game bye to the top 4 teams in the league. This is due to 2010 being the first season where all 16 Big East basketball programs will be playing in the tournament. In the past, not all of the teams made the tournament based on their regular season record. Not that it will be easy if your team comes in ranked 5th or worse in the regular season. The Louisville Cardinals will be defending their 2009 Big East Tournament championship this post season. If you are traveling to the tournament, finding a hotel near Madison Square Garden will allow you to avoid renting a car during your stay in the city since  you are walking distance from the major attractions around the arena.

There’s still too much basketball to be played to see who will turn out in the top 4 in the conference, but the Villanova Wildcats, West Virginia Mountaineers, and Syracuse Orangemen are three of the conference leaders battling for the regular season conference title and potential #1 NCAA tournament seeding with less than a month to go til the tournament occurs. The Big East tournament championship game will be held on March 13th.
