Florida Gators Basketball Coach Billy Donovan

Billy Donovan’s Gators have been trying to find themselves the past two seasons after winning back to back NCAA titles.  With star guard Nick Calathas departing for Greece or the NBA, Allan Chaney transferring, DeShawn Painter reneging on his commitment to Florida and

Alex Tyus now leaving the team, the Gators are going to have a long, hard road to make it back to the NCAA tournament next season. On the bright side of things, Donovan does have star, All American guard Kenny Boyton, 6’10” PF Erik Murphy, and former All Amercian Vernon Macklin transferring from Georgetown coming to the team next season, so Florida is going to have a good nucleus of players for the 2009-10 season.

2009-10 Projected Starting Lineup for the Florida Gators

Trying to project the Florida Gators starting lineup for 2009-10 is still a bit difficult at this point. With Alex Tyus transferring, my best guess for who gets the early nod for the front court would be Kenny Kadji at the center position and new comer, Erik Murphy at the PF position. Erving Walker as the early nod at the point, though Coach Donovan has stated he may do point guard by committee until a clear-cut winner for the position emerges. Unfortunately, once Coach John Calipari migrated north to Kentucky, Donovan lost out on both star point guard recruits that were still available in Eric Bledsoe and Jon Wall. No doubt it will be interesting to see how Donovan puts his team together for next season to try and get the Gators back to the NCAA tournament!
