Jodi Meeks Drives Against Louisville

Jodi Meeks Drives Against Louisville

Last Updated: 24 June 2009.

Ok, so I didn’t quite get to updating my 2009 NBA Mock Draft  until the day before draft day as I’m typing. We’ve seen who’s going and staying in the draft now. The biggest surprise is the lack of “awe” for Ricky Rubio’s only workout conducted before the draft with the Sacramento Kings.  I dropped him all the way down to nr 5 since the Kings don’t seem to thrilled with him, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him go even lower! Jodie Meeks chose to remain in the draft along with Memphis’s Shawn Taggart and we have seen a fair bit of movement of players based on how their pre-draft workouts have gone. Tyler Hansbrough and B.J. Mullens have helped their cases since the 2008-09 NCAA regular season wrapped up and Terrence Williams may have worked his way into a 2009 NBA lottery pick! Particularly interesting is that Minnesota has traded to get the nr 5 and 6 picks with many thinking they’ll take the best Point Guard on the board with the first pick and a good shooting or slashing guard with the second. Don’t be surprised to see them take DeRozan and Evans here vice mucking with Rubio if he’s still around.

Gerald Henderson in the 2009 Big East Tourney

Gerald Henderson in the 2009 Big East Tourney

Unlike the top five point guards in the 2009 NBA draft, the shooting guards are all players that will likely not make a huge impact in the NBA for a few years. Not that they’re not worthy of high picks in the first round, its just that they’ll probably need a little time to make an impact at the shooting guard position! Stephen Curry makes an appearance on both lists and will likely be the one guard on this listing to see significant playing time in the 2009-10 NBA season.

Top 5 2009 NBA Draft Shooting Guards

#1 2009 NBA Draft Top Shooting Guard – James HardenArizona State

James Harden came into his freshman season at Arizona State with big-time expectations. He didn’t let anyone down with averaging 17.8 points per game, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists earning All-PAC-10 first team accolades. In his sophomore year, he upped his numbers to 21 points per game, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game earning the Pac-10 Player of the Year award. Harden brings an ability to score and NBA size to the draft. On the downside, his athleticism is considered average and he was turnover prone in his two season of college ball.

#2 2009 NBA Draft Top Shooting Guard – Demar DeRozanUSC

Demar DeRozan is entering the draft with probably the best NBA body of the shooting guard propsects. He’s considered a bit green still, so it will likely be a few seasons before we start to see big time numbers of out him.
