Illinois Fightin Illini

Illinois coach Bruce Weber has signed a top 25 class for the 2009 recruits heading to Illinois next season. He has three top 100 recruits coming in to the program headlined by star shooting guard, D.J. Richardson who is a slasher with a great three point shot. Other recruits in the 2009 Illinois class are guard Brandon Paul, and outside shooter Joseph Bertrand. Tyler Griffey is the star front court recruit coming in to help Coach Weber reload for the 2009 season after only bringing in one high school recruit in his 2008 recruiting class.

2009 Illinois Fighting Illini Basketball Recruits

#1 – 2009 Illinois Basketball Recruit – SG – DJ Richardson
Ht: 6′3″
Wt: 180lbs
Rank:38
D.J. Richardson is going to make an impact in the Big 10 in the 2009-10 season. He takes the ball directly at defenders and is able to absorb contact while finishing. He’s got a quick first step and is a great defender. He’s made-to-fit for the Illinois man to man defense and motion offense and is going to play a big role for the Illini next season.

#2 – 2009 Illinois Basketball Recruit – SG – Brandon Paul
Ht: 6′3″
Wt: 180lbs
Rank: 42
Brandon Paul is more of an athletic wing guard that can catch and shoot as well as attack the basket. Sometimes he can become too passive when playing and does not possess big time college point guard skills yet.

#3 – 2009 Illinois Basketball Recruit – PF – Tyler Griffey
Ht: 6′8″
Wt: 220lbs
Rank: 120
Tyler Griffey is a great power forward prospect who can also nail three pointers with great accuracy. He has a great mid-range jump shot but needs to work more on his post moves. He is a great rebounder on both ends of the cour and is going to fit nicely with the Illinois offense and defense.

#4 – 2009 Illinois Basketball Recruit – SG – Joseph Bertrand
Ht: 6′4″
Wt: 170lbs
Rank: 128
Joseph Betrand is a solid shooter who can catch and shoot or dribble to the three. His defense is considered solid and he is a good rebounding guard. He will be a solid contributor for the Illini but will not likely start in his freshman season.
